How hardwired trackers are fitted.

A hardwired tracker connects to the vehicle's electrical system and is fitted according to the device manufacturer's requirements. The equipment and vehicle determine the appropriate connections and fitting position.

The vehicle needs to be available for the installation. Agree where fitting will take place and identify any existing tracking equipment before the appointment.

Why choose a hardwired tracker?

A hardwired unit suits a more permanent fitting arrangement for vehicles in regular use. It can be fitted out of sight, depending on the equipment and suitable space in the vehicle.

The trade-off is the fitting work. The vehicle needs to be available for installation, and removal or refitting needs to be arranged when the vehicle is replaced. Include those arrangements and any charges when comparing quotations.

For leased vehicles, check fitting and removal arrangements with the leasing company before choosing equipment.

03 / Installation

Where can fitting take place?

Fitting may be offered at a customer's premises or at an installer's workshop. Which is practical depends on the installer, equipment and where the vehicles can be made available.

A fleet that returns to one workplace has a different fitting plan from vehicles kept at drivers' homes or separate bases. Use the vehicles' actual locations when arranging installation, rather than only the business's office address.

04 / Installation

Preparing the vehicles.

Prepare a vehicle list before agreeing the fitting plan. It helps establish the equipment needed and whether the vehicles can attend together or need separate arrangements.

  • Vehicle count and types
  • Usual base of each vehicle
  • Vehicle availability
  • Known existing tracking equipment
  • The tracking system the devices need to work with

Confirm the fitting location and expected duration when arranging the appointment, so you can plan when each vehicle will be available.

05 / Installation

If trackers are already fitted.

Existing hardware may belong to a different system or agreement. A device being present in the vehicle does not establish that it can be used with a new provider.

Identify any known make or model, check the existing agreement and establish the proposed changeover. Equipment compatibility, subscription arrangements and physical fitting each need a clear answer.

Checking the installation.

After fitting, the tracker needs to report to the correct software account. Agree how the installer or provider will check that the device is connected and reporting.

Make sure the people who will use the system can sign in and find the map and journey records. An installed device is only part of getting the fleet set up.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions.

01How are Phace's fleet trackers installed?

Phace supplies hardwired trackers connected to the vehicle's electrical system. Discuss the vehicles and their bases to arrange fitting at your premises or the Chudleigh workshop.

02Will an existing tracker work with a new tracking service?

That depends on compatibility and the provider's arrangements. Establish the equipment details and current agreement before planning a changeover.

03Do all vehicles need to attend the same place?

That depends on the installer and agreed fitting plan. Provide the actual vehicle bases and availability so the arrangements cover the whole fleet.

04What happens when a tracked vehicle is replaced?

Arrange removal and refitting with the installer, and check the replacement vehicle is suitable. Confirm how the tracking account is updated and whether the work involves a charge.

05Does hardwired fitting mean better tracking?

The fitting method describes the connection to the vehicle. It does not, by itself, establish the accuracy, update frequency or reports available. Compare the actual device and tracking service.
